Pyewipe Project

KIRK UK successfully upgrades existing WwTW for Anglian Water

Pyewipe

KIRK UK, part of KIRK GROUP, has completed some major upgrades to the existing Anglian Water waste water treatment works at Grimsby, Lincolnshire.

Anglian Water needed to increase the capacity of the Sludge Treatment Centre within the WwTW, resulting in an increased production of renewable electricity for the operations of both sites.

Following determination by Ofwat, Anglian Water had an obligation to deliver the following outputs by March 2015: increase total capacity for sludge treatment to enhanced treated standards across the Anglian Water region from 46% to a minimum of 80%, increase total on site renewable electricity generation from biogas to 86.8GWh/year and reduce biosolids treatment by lime stabilisation to less than 1% of the total raw sludge production. Pyewipe WwTW was recognised as one of five key sites where the upgrades were possible and would deliver the outcomes required.

KIRK designed, supplied and constructed a total of four glass-fused-to-steel (GFS) tanks complete with four GFS roofs. With this project KIRK was also able to demonstrate their state-of-the-art access steelwork providing access to the top of each tank by designing and constructing a multi flight access staircase leading from ground level to a walkway situated 14m above ground. From the top of the staircase a straight self-supporting 1m wide walkway runs approx. 18m in parallel with the HPH Buffer Tank and the two Pasteurisation Tanks, whilst access to the Hydrolysis Tank roof was achieved via a separate 8m long walkway.
